CFOS Joins No Way to Treat a Child Campaign

October 7, 2017

Canadian Friends of Sabeel (CFOS) has joined the No Way to Treat a Child campaign recently launched in Canada by Defence for Children International (DCI).

Israel is the only country in the world to automatically prosecute children in military courts that lack basic safeguards for a fair trial.  Each year the Israeli military arrests and prosecutes around 700 Palestinian children.  From the moment of arrest, Palestinian children encounter ill-treatment and torture at the hands of Israeli forces. Three out of four experience physical violence during arrest or interrogation.

CFOS encourages you to learn more about the experiences of Palestinian children who have been arrested or detained by the Israeli military by watching DCI’s film “Detaining Dreams.” You can also check out more resources available on the Canadian microsite of the campaign, and follow the campaign on Facebook and Twitter.

Canada’s foreign policy indicates a priority commitment to protection and promotion of the rights of children and youth around the world, particularly children living in conflict-affected areas. Please take a moment to read and sign this petition to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland.
