We are seeking a passionate, ambitious leader to help us realize our plans to grow the network and impact of Canadian Friends of Sabeel (CFOS) across Canada, raising the awareness of the struggle of Palestinian Christians living under oppression. The Executive Director (ED) will develop creative strategies to implement the goals of the organization, oversee and manage the organization’s program and build the profile and membership of the organization.  He or she will be passionate for and committed to justice in the Middle East and represent CFOS in networking and inter-organizational spaces when needed. The ED will manage the human and financial resources of CFOS responsibly.



Governance and Administration

  • Manage the organization:
    • Lead the development and implementation of the mission of CFOS, strategic plans and operational goals
    • Manage the relationships with and communication between other part-time staff and standing committees
    • Provide leadership and oversight for the day to day work of the organization
  • Attend all board, executive committee and other committee meetings
  • Assist the CFOS Board with administrative tasks

Program Management

  • Work with the Program Committee to develop all programs for the organization in Canada and in Palestine
  • Coordinate all programs
  • Work with volunteers across the country to implement various programs
  • Nurture local groups across Canada and support their initiatives
  • Enlist, coordinate and encourage volunteers
  • Relate to national churches and church related organizations in Canada, and coordinate programs with them

Communications Management

  • Work with the Communications Committee to support programs
  • Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator in the use of emails, social media and website to promote the work of the organization.

Finance and Fundraising Management

  • Assist the Finance and Fundraising committee to execute financial appeals and other initiatives to build the donor base and organizational sustainability.
  • Oversee management donor lists and databases

Compensation & Benefits

  • Position Type:           Contract 30 – 40 hours (at applicant’s discretion, to be stated in application)
  • Compensation:         $37 – 50K per year with statutory deductions (commensurate with chosen hours)
  • Ideal Start Date:       Flexible, no later than 17 September 2018
  • Terms:                         2-year contract subject to a 4 month-probationary period; subsequent annual reviews
  • Reporting:                  To the CFOS Board of Directors and directly to its Chairperson

Candidate Profile



  • Accredited University degree
  • Active member of a Christian church in Canada
  • Leadership and management abilities
  • Passionate about CFOS’s vision and mission
  • Resourceful, and a self-starter
  • Volunteer spirit


  • Experience of a minimum three years of responsibilities equivalent to an Executive Director
  • Experience in managing effective working relationships
  • Experience of development and implementation of strategic plans and operational goals


  • Knowledge of Christian denominations and churches in Canada
  • Knowledge of the Palestinian solidarity movement in Canada
  • Knowledge of the Israel/Palestine conflict specifically and the Middle East more broadly
  • Familiarity with the people, history, and dynamics of the Middle east
  • Familiarity with Canadian justice movements and networks
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively, efficiently and independently from home, and with appropriate guidance from others

Location & Travel

  • Applicants are welcome from any location across Canada
  • CFOS works primarily remotely across Canada with a bi-annual in person Board leadership retreat
  • The successful applicant will be working out of a home office as a contract employee.
