Impact of CROs in Palestine

March 22, 2021

A study released March 16 at Dar al-Kalima University in Bethlehem has documented the huge presence and impact of church-related organizations (CROs) among Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem. In light of the decreasing number of Christians living there relative to members of other faiths, the figures are remarkable. The CROs comprise, among others,
* 93 school, universities, and vocational centres
* 19 health-care facilities
* 77 cultural and tourism centres
* 47 social protection institutions
* 38 youth and scouts’ centres
The approximately 296 CROS are the third-largest employers of Palestinian people after the Palestinian Authority (PA) and the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA).
The CROs invest a combined total of $416 million USD yearly in such areas as health care, education, social services, vocational training, and development assistance.
