Civil Society Influencer Project
Do you wish to nominate an influencer for an upcoming delegation?
Would you consider yourself a person of influence within your networks or community?
Special funding may be available.
Canadians have witnessed the reality of genocide and war crimes in real time over the last 16 months. Many have felt challenged, angered and frustrated. How does one respond without any first hand experience of the situation in Palestine and no contact with Palestinians?
Influential members of civil society play a vital role in shaping public discourse, advocating for justice, and influencing government policy. First hand experiences in Palestine provide critical insight into the realities on the ground, allowing leaders to witness the political, economic, and social impact of Apartheid. By engaging directly with those affected, you can contribute to a more informed and just global conversation on human rights, peace with justice, equality and International law.
About the project
The Influencer Project, led by the SABEEL Ecumenical Liberation Theology Centre (SABEEL) in partnership with Canadian Friends of SABEEL (CFOS), envisions peace with justice and equality for both Palestinians and Israelis. This includes the preservation of Palestinian identity and culture as well as the strengthening of Canadian and International support for the Palestinian people.
Through these visits, this project aims to build International networks of solidarity with the Palestinian people. It is open to Canadian citizens or permanent residents aged 18 and older who have the capacity to influence public opinion, behaviors, and decisions through their reach, credibility, engagement, and social networking potential.
About the Process
We invite you to "come and see" Palestine and experience the current political, social, cultural, economic, and environmental situation. While there, you will engage with Palestinians through the connections of Sabeel, a well-established, community-based organization committed to non-violent, inclusive, peace with justice.
Through this experience, you will:
Meet Palestinians and witness their daily realities.
Connect and reflect with a diverse network of community leaders and activists, local theologians, and advocates who are committed to International Humanitarian and Human Rights Law.
Benefit from Sabeel’s extensive experience in studying ongoing developments in Palestine and Israel.
Stand in solidarity with the Palestinian community and others committed to peace, equality and justice for all.
Taking Action
Upon returning to Canada, you will be encouraged, indeed expected to share your first hand stories and experiences with your networks and communities. With our support, you will be uniquely positioned to:
Advocate for peace with justice, and equality in order that Palestinian basic human rights are respected.
Raise awareness to ensure that Palestinians are no longer subject to harassment, settler encroachment, property confiscation, and violations of their economic, political, and religious rights.
Promote International Law and Human Rights, challenging settler-colonialist ideologies, actions, and institutions that perpetuate oppression.
Engage with governments and institutions, urging them to uphold International Humanitarian and Human Rights Laws that protect the rights of all people in the region.
Cost and Travel Dates
Participants will receive a subsidy covering 50% to 75% of travel, lodging, and food expenses. The estimated total cost of the trip is approximately $5,000.
Participants must have a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond their date of arrival in Palestine/Israel.
Five groups of ten participants each are expected to travel between fall 2025 and fall 2026.
